The Jimi Hendrix & Robin Trower Tribute Band

Here is the beginning of some sound clips I created for some friends at the FDP - Fender Forum. This first song, my off the cuff version of "Hey Baby" by Jimi of course is an attempt to demonstrate the tonal differences between using Fender Custom Shop '69 pickups with a Fender US Highway 1 Strat with a Rosewood neck compared to a new American Series Strat with a maple neck. My goal is to share what I think is a definite difference in tone. See the full explanation thread at the forum link above. Since this was my first try at recording something with my new Boss BR864 Digital Home Studio, please forgive if the mix isn't up to snuff. What I found to be difficult at first is that everything sounded tinny until I learned how to adjust the input into the recorder and the output from the amp.  It doesn't sound exact but close.  I recorded directly from the line out jack on the Marshall MG100 DFX solid state amp so the full warmth of the tube sound is missing but you should still get some idea. The timing isn't that great either because it's kind of difficult to play something off the top of your head without a band accompaniment to help keep time. Well at least for me it is, having never taken any formal music training. ;-)

This first clip is of my shortened "Hey Baby" just for demo purposes using the US Highway 1 with Rosewood neck, some gain and a great Uni-Vibe clone called the Ultra Vibe. Notice how the fat Jimi type bottom end on the CS '69s really cuts through the mix with some gain and Ultra Vibe added and the highs really are balanced and transparent like the ads say. I'll post the same song demos using the maple neck American Standard soon. I like the sound of the maple neck for this song better because it's a bit rounder and smoother. I'll also post clean sounding clips for "Hey Joe" and maybe some Trower type demos:

Hey Joe Hey Joe

More clips coming soon! Jam Clip in neck Position using Boss DR880 Dr. Rhythm Drum/Bass Machine as backing track

This was my very first attempt at recording Purple Haze with a handheld cassette recorder using the stock pickups in the US Highway 1 before I swapped them out for the CS 69s. The audio is a bit harsh sounding because I had no idea what I was doing and had it sitting right next to my amp cranked up playing along to some backing tracks.
